WARD 3 / OSHAWA

About Sam

Putting practical experience to work for Ward 3.

Sam Howes has called Ward 3 home since 2012. He is a licensed plumber, small-business owner, blue-collar tradesman, father, and taxpayer running to bring real-world experience to City Council.

Sam lives, works, and is raising his family in Oshawa’s Ward 3.

The story

A working-life perspective for City Hall.

Sam never planned on becoming a politician. But after years of watching taxes rise while residents are asked to accept higher costs without seeing comparable value in return, he reached the point where he believe simply complaining about the problem isn’t enough. If we want things to change, people with practical experience need to be willing to step forward. Sam came to the plumbing trade after studying aviation manufacturing in Thunder Bay. He earned his license, built his skills, and started his own company at age 28. Today, the business employs four people in addition to Sam.

Running a small business has made one thing clear: every dollar matters. Payroll, materials, equipment, and customer expectations all demand responsible decisions and real value in return.

Sam is not running to cut spending blindly. He is running to make sure Oshawa spends intelligently, challenges unnecessary costs, and expects measurable value for every dollar residents contribute.

This campaign is also about the future. Sam wants his son, and every child growing up in Ward 3, to have a realistic chance to own a home and build a good life in the community they know.

What guides the work

Oshawa deserves a councilor that asks tough questions, challenges unnecessary costs, looks for better ways of doing things, and expects measurable value for every dollar spend. We should not accept "that's the way it has always been done" as an excuse for inefficiency.
